Do you live in a state that we do not currently hold a state event, but you are between the ages of 4 and 20? This is your chance to represent and serve your state all year long as State Royalty!

National American Miss is the largest pageant in the nation for young women. We are so excited to extend an invitation to you to be a part of our program! At this time, we are not offering a program in your state for your age group. However, we hope you will be a part of our Appointed Representative Program. The girl that is selected as the State Representative will be given the opportunity to compete at the National Pageant, in Hollywood California for the National Title of NATIONAL AMERICAN MISS.
It’s your chance to make memories that last a lifetime!

Here’s How It Works…Once we receive your filled out resume, completed essays, and you have included your registration fee with your photograph, then we will call you to set up a phone interview. When the phone interview has been completed, then your entire entry will be placed in the hands of the selections committee. The selections committee will review the elements of your completed application and score each portion of the competition. Then, the new state queen will be awarded along with the four runner-ups.

The winner will be appointed the title of National American Miss for your state and will attend the National Pageant during Thanksgiving week in Anaheim, California at Disneyland to compete for the National American Miss Queen’s Title. The 4 Runners-Up will be given the opportunity to represent their state as a city queen and to attend the National Pageant to compete for the National All-American Miss Queen’s Title.

Arizona Royalty = BUSY GIRLS!

Our 2011 Arizona Royalty just has not stopped! I'm pretty sure there has not been 1 week-end where at least one of them isn't doing some form of community service. In two months, the girls have done eveything from fairs to food drives. Check out what these busy girls have been up to while representing the great state of Arizona!

National American Miss Talent Contest

Does National American Miss have a talent competition? Yes...but it's totally optional, you do not have to do it, and it has nothing to do with who wins their state title.

But, it's during this Optional Competition that I see some amazing things. I can honestly say that I have seen literally EVERYTHING during our Optional Talent Competition. From tap, jazz, musical instruments, cultural dances, hip-hop, crunking, hula-hooping, hula-ing, limboing, limboing while on rollerblades....I mean....seriously everything! And I am constantly wowed and impressed by the super cool talents girls across the country posses. So many of our girls have gone on to American Idol & Broadway and we are soo proud that they took to the NAM stage on their journey.

Anyways, just came across this youtube of one of our contestants here at National American Miss performing her talent on-stage at last year's Illinois Pageant and thought I would share. Also, this is a great example of a good talent for our older divisions - there is difficulty, a strong performance level (look at her confidence,smile and facial expressions), an appropriate costume, it's entertaining, unique, and memorable.

Miss Nebraska Jr. Pre-Teen continues to educate kids about water safety

Angel Strong, Miss Nebraska Jr. Pre-Teen, alongside Josh the Otter is determined to prevent drowning in young children and educate tots about water safety. Together Angel and Josh the Otter are making a difference as spokesmodels for the Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation - one of Nebraska's leading charitable organizations. While making appearance and helping with swim classes, together they pass out books and stickers and make sure that every school and library has the Josh the Otter Book that teaches water safety. Now that's doing some NAM-tastic good work!

Miss Massachusettes has beaten the odds..

I recently found this article about Charlotte Papp, National American Miss Massachusetes 2011. Charlotte begin competing in pageants when she was in 7th grade and is now a Communications Studies major at The College of Wooster.

However, when Charlotte was years old, she was diagnosed with Traposition of the Great Arteries (TGA). The survival rate is less than 8% and for those who do recover are often left with a range of health issues including ADHD and speech impediments...and playing sports are usually not an option.

However, it was pageants where Charlotte found an arena where she was able to challange herself, develop a platform that was meaningful to her, and give back. Through pageantry, she has developed "Have A Heart." Through this organization she collects books and stuffed animals to donate to local children's hospitals recovering from the same therapy and surgery she once had to undergo.

How perfect her own platform tied in with the National American Miss Books & Bears Community Involvement Program.

Local News reaches out to lend support for Miss Illinois Teen's amazing cause

After donating all the books & bears to local children's hospitals that she had gathered after obtaining her title through the National American Miss Books & Bears Community Involvement Program, Valerie Stokes - Miss Illinois Teen was inspired to do even more. Going one step further, Valerie founded Pillowcases for Pediatrics - a program where she makes homemade pillowcase and donates them hospitalized children.

The local newspaper was so inspired by her movement, that they too are doing their part to get the message out about her platform and featured her in a recent article, encouraging others to get involved, as well.

FLASHBACK.....

June 2011 - Peyton Newman, a 9 year old from Vernon Hills, Illinois receives an invitation to attend an Open Call.

June 2011 - Peyton's dad, Terry, being a bit skeptical signs her up anyways for the Open Call before discussing it with her mom. Mom is not happy with Dad.

June 2011 - Peyton's mom, Michelle, is skeptical of what all this "Open Call pageant thing would be about. " So, Peyton's mom, Michelle calls another mom - Joey Pearlman. Joey, is the mom of Lindsey, Peyton's friend who has recommended Peyton to National American Miss and has done the National American Miss pageant in the past. Joey & Lindsey tell Peyton and her parents - DO IT! IT'S AWESOME!

July 2011 - Peyton attends the Open Call with her mom and dad, and is selected as a state finalist. Peyton's mom and dad are impressed with National American Miss.

August 2011 - Peyton attends the Free Pageant Prep Training Session that National American Miss offered and Peyton keeps practicing everything she learns.

September 2011 - Pageant time is here. Peyton has the time of her life and enjoys meeting

new friends at her state pageant. Peyton's dad loves escorting her on-stage during the Formal Wear Competition and bonding with his daughter. Peyton's mom loves watching her daughter get up on stage with such confidence. Peyton's brothers like all the pretty girls. Peyton even wins the pageant and becomes the National American Miss Illinois Jr. Pre-Teen. Peyton and her family can't believe it!

November 2011 - Peyton and her formally skeptical parents , and excited 2 brothers head to Nationals in Anaheim, CA. Peyton wins the NATIONAL PAGEANT. Peyton is the 2011-2012 National American Miss Jr. Pre-Teen. Peyton will travel the next year across the country making appearances, modeling, and reaching out to others while working on her literacy campaign. You see, Peyton is like all little girls - she has big dreams.

January 2012 - Peyton's dad, Terry, sends me, Breanne Maples - Associate State Director, this message:

It's Peyton's dad, Terry. This whole NAM thing rocks! I was fairly skeptical at first, as you might remember, but truly appreciate what the "crown" enables these girls to do. You know, you can either be a queen and simply be pretty or use it to open doors and really make a difference. In addition to volunteering, Peyton has already raised another 1,000+ books for her literacy campaign as well. This is amazing. She will touch the lives of children she will never know. How cool is that? Hope all is well and Happy New Year.

Ronald McDonald House experience touches the hearts of our Illinois Royalty

The National American Miss Illinois royalty stopped by the Ronald McDonald House a few weeks ago to prepare and serve dinner, as well as spend the whole evening chatting it up families taking residence. The girls were so touched by the experience, having this to say, "we met some amazing families....struggling with keeping their sanity with dealing with sick children. Hopefully we were able to take their minds of their babies for a while and bring a sense of peace, even for a short period."

Knowing this awesome group of girls...im sure they did just that.

NAMiss Massachusetts makes Boston Bruins Ice Girls Team

It's not uncommon for people to think that pageants are for "girly girls." It's not uncommon for "tomboys" to think that pageants aren't something for them. But......this goes to show that NAM re-efines pageantry, and is truly is for TODAY's girl..."girly girl," "tomboy," or none of the above!

BOSTON — It's not as if Rachel Welch needed another activity added to her already overflowing plate.

It already read something like this: sophomore at Merrimack College majoring in psychology. Holder of a full-time job. Currently the National American Miss Massachusetts Teen 2011.

In other words, there was little time in her life for anything else. But this was an opportunity she just couldn't pass up. "I absolutely love it," said Welch, a 2010 Bishop Fenwick graduate, on being one of the newest Boston Bruins Ice Girls. "It's a completely new experience for me, and the thrill of going to all the home games and interacting with the fans is incredible."

The 19-year-old Welch, a former Bishop Fenwick football and hockey cheerleader, was one of 900 applicants who tried out for the Ice Girls in early September, and one of only five that was ultimately picked to join the team.

I love being an Associate State Director for National American Miss, but before I wore that hat, I wore the hat of choreographer.

I loved traveling from state to state working closely with the girls in rehearsals and backstage and I totally miss it! But, every year at our National event, I get to dust off my old choreographer hat and put it back on.

This year, I got to work closely with the Princess and Jr. Pre-Teens Queen and All-Americans. I know that if you were at Nationals as a Princess or Jr. Pre-Teen or one of their family, I think you will all agree - WE HAD SOOO MUCH FUN!!!!

Anyways, I found this cute video that one of our moms took during our Jr. Pre-Teen Queen rehearsal on Red, White, & Blue day (yes, our rehearsals are EVEN themed!)

Celebrating NAMily this holiday season

It is no secret that the National American Miss Organization focuses on family values, celebrating family, and of course we are a family run organization, and we love expanding our family into our NAMily! And this time of year is all about celebrating and being with your family.

So, I thought I would share with you, our NAMily, how the Maples Family celebrates our holiday's and some of our favorite holiday traditions....many traditions that im sure, you all share, as well!

FOOD: Every night at 5:30 EVERYONE in the Maples family sits down together at the dinner table. The table seats 16 - and sometimes we still have to add chairs as we often invite friends - everyone is welcome!! So, Christmas time is usually centered around...FOOD!!!!!! We have the BEST family recipes - jalapeno corn casserole, green bean casserole, homemade pumpkin pie and homemade whipped cream, artichoke dip, crap dip.....I could keep going...and yes, even I do some cooking!!!
FAMILY & GIFTS: I have two older brothers, James and Justin, two sister-in laws, five neices and nephews, and of course, there's my significant other (who I'm sure you all know as one of the NAM Team Maples Associate State Directors), Ryan...and all of us all together have 5 dogs (Bear, Max, Molly, Bailey May, & Hannah Banana) who YES are considered just as a part of them family as anyone else. With so many of us, we choose to draw names and play secret santa. But not only do you buy that person a gift - you have to HAND MAKE them a stocking that depicts THEIR personality (ie - mine usually has sparkles, crowns, pink, leopard print, or anything super girly). We come up with CRAZY ideas for the stockings and it is usually the hit of the day.
DECORATIONS: We put up and decorate a 24 foot christmas tree in the family room...yes 24 foot!!! It's the guy's least favorite part of Christmas as it tends to be their big project. AND - as if that wasn't enough, there is still a tree in each of the other rooms of Kenn & Lani's house with decorations to match that particular room. All together there are 7 trees in their house. Lani is obsessed with Christmas Decorating!
REFLECTION: Aside from crazy hand-made stockings each year, my mom puts out "MY STOCKING." Every year, I add an ornament to the stocking that reflects that year - something I did, somewhere I went, an accomplishment in my life. Now that I'm pushing 30 - the stocking is too heavy to hang or to fill, but it gets set out every year and together mommy and I talk about each ornament and why it's important. It is hands-down my most prized possession.
RELATIONSHIPS: Growing up, on every Christmas, Lani would ask Santa for a Barbie doll...but NEVER got one. One Christmas, when Kenn and Lani were dating - he gave her a special gift. She opened it up and inside was a Barbie doll. Kenn said, "Now you have your Barbie, " and as he took out the engagement ring, he continued with..."and you have your Kenn." Since then, Kenn gives Lani a Barbie every Christmas - a tradition which was passed down to Breanne.
PRESENTS: Growing up, every Christmas, Breanne would ask for the drivable pink Barbie convertible...but she NEVER got one. Now she is holding out for a REAL pink cadillac convertible.
Breanne is STILL bitter about the pink Barbie convertible.

National American Miss, Rachel Landes, catches up with long-time pageant friend - Madisen Hill (both girls hail from Missouri and have been competing in the NAM organization since its inception). Of course, Rachel, was also excited to get to know iCarly star, Nathan Kress, a little better!

There are always famous and exciting faces to see at our National event. Some of these notable and well-known faces are ever our NAM ALUMNI.

Madisen Hill, former NAM National ALL-American Miss Pre-Teen performed LIVE onstage with our contestants during the opening number to her hit Alien Eyes, downloadable on itunes. (Stay tuned to the NAMISS ROCKS BLOG to see her performance!)

While the girls loved performing and getting to know Madisen better, the real excitement happened when Nathan Kress, iCarly star showed up to check it all out. Every year former National titleholders gather together at the National pageant to catch up on life, where its taken them since NAM, cheer on old friends, welcome new sisters in the NAMily, and share a bond that goes beyond words But, not only that. Together these women, whom have put away their old NAM crowns and banners, are still, in true NAM spirit - striving to make a difference. They raise and donate money to a scholarship fund to give back every year at our national pageant to NAM contestants.

Miss Minnesota Princess, Chloe Russo works to raise money for pediatric cancer with....a lemonade stand!

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation shares the vision of founder, Alex Scott - to find a cure for kids with cancer. When Alex was four, she was diagnosed with cancer. On her birthday, she decided she wanted to set up a lemonade stand to raise money she could "give to the doctors to find a cure for cancer." That day, Alex raised $2000 and thus the foundation was started.

Miss Missouri princess, Chloe Russo, also aspires to make a difference and was inspired to follow in Alex's steps. Continuing the lemonade stand tradition of the foundation, a few months ago, Chloe set up a lemonade stand in her front yard and aimed to raise money, making a difference, one cup full at a time.

Chloe set up a website and even sent out invitation to family and friends with this message below:

Please help me raise money for Pediatric Cancer. I have always wanted to sell lemonade--my mom and I read about a little girl named Alex who had cancer at 4 years old and decided to have a lemonade stand which has raised over $1 million dollars for kids with cancer. I hope to also raise money because It's sad that kids with cancer cannot play outside because they are sick. Please come buy some lemonade at my day so that one day these kids can play again!

Jessica Simpson Tween Line will be marking its debut with a fresh face...a NAM face!

I must say I am a FAN of Jessica Simpson's fashion line...her shoes are to die for!! So, of course I thought it was super cool when on Friday, I found out that she was teaming up with her sister Ashlee and debuting a Tween line....perfect attire for any NAM fashionista!

However, I REALLY got stinking excited when I found out who the new f

ace of the line will be...Kaylyn Slevin...2 time from NAM titleholder and National Model and Photogenic winner....who has since signed with FORD in LA. (pictured on the Left after her NAM IL Jr. Preteen win)

Kaylyn, along with one othe spunky girl will be the face of the Simpson's Tween Spring/Summer 2012 line, being featured on billboards, ads, catalog, internet, in store signs, print - you name it!

But, for Kaylyn - she told me the coolest part of the experience was spending the day with Jessica and Ashlee Simpson...and their mom Tina...and getting a first glimpse of all the SASSY clothes that will hit department stores like Macy's this fall! Q &A: Former NAM National Titleholder captures Teen USA crown...says it's all because of NAM!

The Miss Universe Organization, owned by Donald Trump & NBC, is a sister pageant to Miss USA & Miss Teen USA, which are pageants that National American Miss girls across the nation venture into once they have aged out of the National American Miss pageant system.

Unlike NAM, they do have a swimsuit competition and it's contestants age up into the late 20's. But like NAM, they believe in reinforcing self confidence in young women. And like NAM....we share many of the same titleholders!

Currently, the Miss Universe Organization is holding their state pageants across the nation, where new state winners are crowned and will venture on to the live telecasts for their respective national titles and the opportunity to work for Donald Trump.

Last week was the Miss Nebraska USA & Teen USA pageant. Sarah Summers, our 2009 National Jr. Teen queen captured the crown and has a new title to her belt - Miss Nebraska Teen USA 2012!

After Sarah was crowned, I had a chance to catch up with Sarah and here is what she had to say!

SARAH SUMMERS: Thanks! It's all because of you guys at NAM!

NAMISS ROCKS BLOG: Well, then how would you say National American Miss prepared your for Teen USA?

SARAH SUMMERS: National American Miss was my first pageant ever and helped prepare me for everything I've done thus far in my life. After winning the National American Miss Jr. Teen title, I traveled a lot, did speaking engagements, made appearances, modeled, and even judged other pageants. This has all helped me become more confident and more comfortable which always shines through and I think it really helped me as I competed for NE Teen USA. To have the NAM experience and the support of my NAMily was amazing!

NAMISS ROCKS BLOG: What is your favorite part about competing in pageants?

SARAH SUMMERS: For SOOOO many reasons. All the amazing friends I have met across the country, the endless opportunities they have provided me with, and how much they really help with life skills, mostly confidence.

Sooo...since we are gearing up for NATIONALS, I thought I would better acquaint those of you who have not attended Nationals to our National Emcee and Entertainer, Joy Suprano. And for those of you who have attended Nationals, you will find this super exciting!

Joy, a former Miss Pennsylvania herself, has been a part of the NAMily since it's inception and is making quite the name for herself in NYC, gracing tv and movie screens across the globe.

Sooo...was flipping through the channels and saw Kaylyn Slevin on the Orbeez Soothing Spa commercial airing on the Nickelodeon Channel. After talking to Kaylyn, I verified it was, in fact her....and added that she "totally owes everything to National American Miss" for being where she is today! Sooo...cool!

Kaylyn is a former 2 time NAM titleholder and National Model winner. Since her NAM experience, she has signed with Ford Models and is one busy girl! This is just another "day on the job" for Kaylyn.

Connecticut queens make a difference and hoping for a cure for canacer

NAM Team Connecticut is passionate about performing community service and Making a difference is a hobby for them and shined recently on the news. For their 2012 news debut, the girls were active volunteers for the American Cancer Society "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk." The 5K walk was held in Hartford, CT on October 23, 2011. Many of the girls have been volunteers for this organization since 2005 raising funds to find a cure a breast cancer, raising awareness and education and supporting cancer survivors....and love being able to continue their involvement in this wonderful organization as state representatives!

Madeline Morgan, Miss WI Jr. Teen encourages others to "think they can" through her own charitable organization

About a year ago, Madeline Morgan - Miss Wisconsin Jr. Teen - started her own community service project, the Little Engines that Can (L.E.T.C) Project, where she collect books, stuffed animals, and toys and then donates them to kids in hospitals, homeless shelters, and disaster areas.

Of course, this is absolutely perfect for Madeline! Since becoming the WI Jr Teen Queen - she took all the books and bears our Miss Wisconsin contestants donated pageant weekend for their required community involvement competition and was able to use them to donate through L.E.T.C. Along with other books and bears, she herself at collected - she was recently able to make a large donating to the Family Children's Hospital in Wisconsin.
Madeline had this to share regarding the experience, " I was even able to meet some patients who would be recieving the books, whose excitement and joy over the books taught me to be grateful for all that I have and to cherish even the little things that can bring a smile to our faces!"

Many young ladies involved in the NAM organization have started their own organization that are near and dear to her heart. Madeline started L.E.T.C because, "One of my favorite books to read as a kid was The Little Engine that Could. The well-known story of how perserverance, persistence, and believing in yourself always inspired my to go out and accomplish all of dreams! Bringing this message to children who deserve, but do not get a normal childhood, by sending Books, Stuffed Animals, and gently used toys, is one way that I hope to inspire them that no matter what situation they may be in, they can accomplish any dream they may have!"

It is absolutely no secret that the National American Miss organization is a program that truly encourages girls to gain self confidence, learn new life-skills.....and make lots of new friends....and here is no exception.

Recently, I was honored to be a bridesmaid in the NAM wedding of the year. National American Miss choreographer and entertainer, Brooke Pope, wed National American Miss DJ, Nate Hughes. The two met 6 years ago at a National American Miss pageant and a wonderful friendship grew...eventually leading into a special kind of lifelong friendship, marriage.

Their wedding was a true NAM event, as the wedding party alone consisted of NAM staff, state directors, DJ's, and even former contestants and queens....not to mention the NAM-tastic guest list.

Some girls dream of growing up to become a "beauty queen." Some girls dream of growing to become a "mommy." For Wendi Russo....both came true. Wendi Russo who you may be familiar with as the on air host for ShopNBC, has been competing in pageants for the past few years and is currently a Mrs. Minnesota titleholder for a Mrs. pageant organization. So, it was no wonder that her daughter, Chloe would want to follow in mommy's footsteps!

Chloe, whose a spunky tot, choose the National American Miss Minnesota pageant as her first pageant experience, and captured the judges hearts by taking home the title of 2011 Miss MInnesota Princess.

Now Mom and Daughter are having a year of a lifetime, both traveling and making appearances together - becoming the ulitmate faces for mommy and me organizations and giving back across the country changing lives of girls of ALL ages!

What REALLY happens with those books and bears you donate??

Sooo...you brought 1 or maybe even 50 childrens books & stuffed animals to your state pageant this year. And for doing so, you received 10% of your score, covering the Required Community Involvement portion of the pageant competion.

BUT....what happens AFTER you drop of your books & bears at pageant check-in & get your 10% towards your score?

Well, like we told you - the newly crowned state titleholders will take ALL YOUR donations and choose a children's charity of their choice. They donate the books and bears that YOU brought to pageant to that organization and volunteer with them throughout the year of their reign as National American Miss. Together, WE make a difference.

It takes a village to raise a child...

You often hear the saying...."it takes a village to raise a child." Well, let me share with JUST how true this is.

This year, over 500 young leaders from all across the state of Illinois competed for the title of Miss Illinois Princess, Jr. Preteen, Preteen, Jr. Teen, & Teen.

And 3 of 5 of this year's winners are from the exact same city and have all attended the exact same elementary school!!!

Of course, the town of Vernon Hills, IL is proud, proud, proud of their hometown girls - Miss Illinois Princess, Tatum Pearlman; Miss Illinois Jr. Preteen, Peyton Newman; and Miss Illinois Preteen, Cassidy Raasch!

Clearly the town of Vernon Hills, IL is doing something right in the way they are raising the future leaders of America and National American Miss is proud to be part of that growth & personal development!

Checking in with Miss Wisconsin Preteen Cover Girl, Rebecca Dowe....

Miss Wisconsin Preteen Cover Girl 2011, Rebecca Dowe, recently shared with us, here at the NAM HQ some of the things she has been up to since becoming official royalty.

Above & Below, Rebecca and Fox 6 News Milwaukee sports reporter, Tom Pipines(photographed with Rebecca, above), were both the special quests at the Mequon-Thiensvile Optimimst Club's annual event. During her guest appearance, Rebecca enjoyed selling "oz-opoly" games (a version of the Monopoly game, but with local Ozaukee County businesses). The money raised will help fund the Honor Flights for WWII veterans.

Above and Below, Rebecca spends lots of of her spare time making cards for Operation Write Home, which sends cards to the military serving overseas. Unlike, most military card making organization, this one is a little different. The men in the Military receive these cards free of charge and then can use them to send to loved ones back home. So far, Rebecca has made hundreds and isn't going to stop!

The saying is, "old queens never die, they just become staff." But, it takes a very special queen to do just that. Shannon Meador, 2 time former Miss Illinois is exactly that. This next year, Shannon will be taking a FULL year off from her NAMily (where she works as a TEAM MAPLES choreographer)...her family...and basically everything.

Shannon left in September to go on the biggest Missionary trip I think you can ever go on. That's right - shes traveling the world, and doing the Lords work.

While this sounds fulfilling. I haven't told you ALL of it. For the next year, Shannon will be living with 4 shorts, 5 shirts, 1 sleeping back and a few hygenic items....and thats it....FOR A WHOLE YEAR!!!!!! No phone, no ipad, no facebook...nothing. Not to mention, shes on her own (well, with a small group of people) away from all of us who know and love her most! HOW MANY OF YOU CAN DO THAT.

This is her journey on the "WORLD RACE," and doing the Lord's work international style.

Shannon had to endure a week long training camp, where World Race staff members sent her out into the middle of nowhere and observed her stamina, mentality, and emotional abilities. She survived. But, now Shannon is taking on the Phillipines (yes, in the wake of the typhoon), China, South Africa, Mozambique, Swaziland, Bulgaria, Easter Europe, Serbia, Nicaragua, Hondurus, Guatemala. While she's in these places, she will be serving at the feeding programs, teaching kids in church, helping at kids clubs, speaking at youth groups, helping at a youth drop center, prayer walks and house visitations, mural projects, general practical help with buildings and repairs, working with creative arts programs, and community cleaning. She will face sickness, devastation, and disaster on a daily basis. And, lets not forget the language barrier she'll endure. This isn't a short term, fun, life-changing missionary trip. This will be her LIFE, her job, for the next year.

Every once in a while, when her team of Missionaries is an area where there is a wifi computer shop, she logs on to blog about her journey. As Halloween time draws close, we all start thinking about what costume we'll head out in this year as we go door to door in search of delicious candy!

However, if you are thinking about being Rupunzle from the hit movie Tangled, then look closely at the tag.....you might recognize the face!

That's right, 2 time former NAM titleholder, Kaylyn Slevin who since participating in NAM, has signed with FORD models in LA is the face for advertising and packaging for Rupunzle dolls and costuming. Basically - if you head into Toys R Us and look for a Rupunzle doll or for the costume, youll see her face!

Pretty cool to go from a NAM prince to being a real life fairy tale one.

Ever wondered what it would be like to be in the shoes of a National American Miss state titleholder?

Well....lets find out! And for this experiment....lets use our 2011 NAM Utah Royalty.

July - Your dreams just came true... your crowned Miss Utah and get acquainted with the National American Miss staff, state directors, and your sister queens....AKA your NAMily! Then...before you even get home, you are calling everyone you know to tell them the good news! You have quite the year a head of you!

Early August - you travel to California to make your first official appearance as visiting royalty at the NAM California pageant and join up with other sister queens from across the country to get to know the author of "How to be a True Hepbun in a Hilton World"

Mid August - you take some time out for a Fun Photoshoot and take some time out to say thank you by spending a day with the local Sheriffs'

Late August - attend a BYU volleyball game as a celebrity and show your love for aquatic animals through a fun appearance

Early September - you are the special guests and volunteers at the Walk to End Alzheimers

Mid September - you speak to a group of children about the importance of education and reading, followed by a day of reading to tots, and donating the Community Involvement Books.

Late September - you spend some time with the Marines ( showing them YOUR more then just a pretty face) followed by a full week of making appearances, judging competitions, and autograph signing at the Utah State fair...oh and be interviewed LIVE on your local FOX news station

Early October....meet a political official and discuss with him your platform and views!

Mid October...start preparing for Nationals...afterall its only a month away....and then you'll be home, hopefully with the national crown and continuing to make appearances, while keeping up with your grades in school until you give up your crown in June!

Books and bear and politicians...oh my!

Miss Iowa Princess Queen Tanae Thiravong has been up to quite a bit since capturing the crown in July. Check out how busy this tyke has been!!!

First, Tanae made an appearence at the Iowa Straw Poll and was able to meet state rep Tom Lathem and also met US Senator Chuck Grassley. She also toured the CSPAN bus and had her pics taken with staff.

Later on that month, Tanae and her mom able to go up to Heart of Iowa to meet with mothers who suffer with addiction who are at residential long term treamtment and have the opprutunity to take their children with them instead of losing their children to the system. Tanae gave each child a bear and donated the books to their children's library. Tanae also took a disposible camera to leave after having her pic taken with each child....there were 45 children up there. She also met with the mothers and answered questions and was able to read her favorite book Green Eggs and Ham to the children....she had an awesome time, as it was such a humbling experience and the children were mesmerized and really enjoyed the book reading as well!!!

Not to mention, Tanae traveled to Illinois as visiting royalty at the Miss Illinois pageant!

And, in her spare time, Tanae has also been volunteering at her local food and clothing outreach center the Helping Hands in her hometown of Albia Iowa where she hangs clothes, cleans, and sorts shoes for Disabled American Vetrens association.

Now for someone who is under 4 feet tall, thats a lot of miles! Way to go TANAE - you are one rockin' NAM girl! PHEW!

Illinois royalty spares no time at all....

Our Illinois Royalty has spared NO time at all! Almost a week after being crowned, these girls were already getting to work, striving to make a difference in their homestate!

On Sat., September 10, the IL Queens spent the afternoon at Navy Pier in Chicago checking in 15-20 thousand runners for the annual Chicago Half Marathon. The girls and their moms took registration forms, checked ID's, gave out runner's packets with number bibs, shirts and a goodie bag. It was a busy afternoon that was non-stop, but the entire group had a ball getting to know one another while meeting people from all over the country!

The IL girls next event is on September 25 at The Alzheimer's "Walk to Remember" on the beautiful Riverwalk in Naperville. Each of the girls, along with family members, are working in advance to raise funds for the event so that research can be done to cure this tragic disease.

2011 NAM Cover Girl, Jordan George presents to Des Moines City Council

Jordan George, Miss Iowa Pre-Teen Cover Girl is extremely passionate about volunteerism. However, shes not just volunteering herself, she's taking political action to make a stand on her platform!! Encouraging others to get in on the volunteer act, as well, she made a presentation ( which was also televised on local programming) to the Des Moines City Council regarding volunteerism. The City Council was soo inspired by her presentation, they presented her with a book called "The Heart of a Volunteer" However, after watching the video - I am soo impressed with Jordan's presentation and speaking skills...and her ability to hold her own against all the adults who serve on the City Council!!! This is a girl who is on her way to doing BIG things!!!!

Arizona royalty reflect on 9/11 and celebrate our Freedom

Our newly crowned Arizona royalty spent the 10 year anniversary of 9/11 reflecting on what it means to be an American. The girls started the day taking part in a ceremony, that was headed by former Vice President of the United States, Dan Quayle and then put on their walking shoes for the Operation Homefront Freedom Walk. The girls loved this fun bonding experience and showing their red, white, and blue pride....but most importantly taking part in such a monumental occasion!

Our Miss Utah royalty has been SUPER busy avidly working at the Utah State Fair...even getting dirty and doing thinks they probably never thought they would do....like judging the goat contest (LOL!!!). Because they have been so active with the fair and such a iconic staple for attendees....they were even featured and interviewed on the local FOX nightly news!!! Newly crowned Miss Wisconsin Princess, Shelby Hohneke believes that no child should ever go hungry. Not only does this spunky girl donate money to Feed my Starving Children, but also trades in her newly earned tiara for a hair-net, dedicating 1 day a month to the organization, packaging meals to those in need! However, to make giving back fun, she hosts "meal packing parties" and brings along her friends and family. What a super fun way to dedicate your time!

WOW!!! I can't believe a year ago I was crowned Miss Illinois Jr. Pre-Teen!!! It has been an amazing year.

I have had the opportunity to do so many wonderful things. I began my reign by helping out with Popcorn Days for Lambs Farm and took up a collection for the Huntley Animal Shelter. I donated books to my dentist's and doctor's offices. I also donated the stuffed animals to the Algonquin Fire Department where I was able to check out their brand new fire truck! In October, I took part in the Breast Cancer Walk. I also helped out Toys 4 Tots during the holidays by collecting donations for children.

Nationals in California was awesome! I loved meeting the other contestants from around the United States. Disneyland and the Hollywood tour were so much fun. I had a blast strolling down Rodeo Drive with my sister queens. Someone even stopped us for a picture. To add to all the fun I was one of the top 10 semi-finalist!!!

I also had the opportunity to be visiting royalty. I traveled to Iowa and Pennsylvania- two states I had never been to before. It was great to see Kristen & Hailey, my pageant friends that I met at nationals again.

Thank you to everyone at National American Miss. Being Miss Illinois Jr. Pre-Teen has been an honor and something I will cherish forever. Most of all thank you to my family and friends for coming to all of my events and cheering me on.

To my brother Tyler- thanks for being such a good sport. I can't wait for you to be my escort someday! To Mom and Dad- thanks for being with me every step of the way. I love you both! To Mr. & Mrs. Maples & Breanne- I am proud to be a part of National American Miss- thank you for everything! To my sister queens- I have enjoyed getting to know all of you. Best of luck in all that you do. To all of the contestants- I hope this weekend you made new friends, tried something new but most of all had fun!

To my successor- Congratulations! You are about to begin an amazing journey- enjoy every minute.

What an incredible year I’ve had! From helping out at the Cranberry Festival in Warrens, WI, to representing our great state across the nation, I have really been able to understand what National American Miss is about. I have been volunteering since I was five, and serving as your NAM Pre-Teen allowed me to continue to make a difference all across the state. I have made so many new friends and have learned a lot more about myself and who I want to be.

There are so many people I have to thank for making this year possible for me. To my NAM family, especially Mr. and Mrs. Maples: thank you for always being there for me and for believing in me always. You are the reason that my journey was such a successful and fun one. I was so honored to represent you at nationals this year and will always carry your kindness in my heart. To my family and friends, thank you for all your dedication and support for whatever I do. You truly are the reason I am who I am today.

To all of the contestants: The most important thing we can do in our lives is to believe in ourselves. Every one of us have gifts inside of us that can change the world if we just share them with others. I am so proud of each and every one of you for sharing your gifts by being here. And to my successor: you will have an amazing year. Be the best you can be, take lots of pictures, and enjoy every moment. You’ll make memories that you will never forget.

Jordan George, Miss Iowa Preteen Cover Girl 2011 was honored to take part in the Windsor Heights, Iowa National Night Out Celebration held August 2nd in Colby Park. Jordan, as the owner of "Jordan's Jeweled Creations" volunteered to offer a children's activity and helped kids make bracelets. Donations were collected and then presented to Officer Ryan Rupiper of the Windsor Heights Police Department. The donations will help pay for the shipping on items collected at the event to be sent to Afghanistan, where another police officer, Hector Arias, and his unit are currently stationed.

It's been a lucky year for a girl who worked hard for it...farewell to Katie Steiger

I have lived my life with this motto "The harder you work the luckier you get." The past year has proven this statement to be true for me. After being crowned Miss Wisconsin Teen I set out on a mission to reach as many people in Wisconsin as I could, which made for a very busy year! I had a blast doing over 75 appearances around Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan. Becoming Miss Wisconsin Teen was a dream I am so blessed to have accomplished, but it didn't happen over night! I worked hard for my title and used it to promote my platform of volunteerism.

I volunteered with my favorite organization "The Camo Quilt Project" where we sew camouflage quilts for soldiers over seas. I donated bears to the new Columbia St. Mary's Hospital in Milwaukee and books to the United Way. I cheered on the Packers at a football game where I appeared on the jumbo-tron 3 times, met the announcers of Monday Night Football and was featured on "The Mike McCarthy Show!" I was in many parades and went to the Wisconsin State Fair as well as the Clark County Fair where I honored my Grandpa with the "Howie Sturtz Orchestra." I was also able to meet some famous golfers at the PGA Tour at Whistling Straights. I dedicated most of my time to helping with the Boy Scouts of America and served as the 9033 Venture Crew President by visiting a lot of summer camps. I was invited to attend a National Venture Crew Jamboree, spoke at many Winter Banquets and volunteered as a medical officer for Arrow Power where scouts restored old trails and created new ones for a week in Northern Minnesota. I also judged a loon calling contest for the Mercer Loon Days Festival.

National American Miss has opened many doors for me. Not only have I perfected my speaking skills but I am a stronger and more intelligent young lady all around. I have always felt like National American Miss is an investment into a girls future. Every time the contestants participate in the pageant they are more confident about their future and are closer to achieving their dreams even if they don't come home with a crown. Another dream of mine was made possible because of National American Miss; I was chosen as a top model for Hollister and recently discovered by a Wisconsin modeling agency. I am still working toward my dream of becoming a Physician's Assistant while studying Biology at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.

I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to have lived my dream. I hope that throughout the past year I have touched as many lives as have touched mine. Nationals gave me a whole new opportunity to meet girls from all over the United States and I am proud to say that I now have a friend no matter where I travel! I would like to thank my parents and grandparents for helping along this journey. Mom and Grandma; thank you for traveling to appearances with me. Dad, thank you for your encouragement and advice. Ben and Matt thank you for supporting your little sister. Thank you Travis for your continuous love; I know this past year hasn't been easy. Thank you to all of my friends Brooke, Kristin, Katie, Keisha, Tara, Steph, Tori, Brittany and the entire Mangham and Link families. Thank you to Meyer Motors for the parade cars and Irish Studios for the most beautiful professional pictures a girl could ask for!

To the contestants; if you had the crown what would you do with it? Would you start a non profit organization, raise money for a charity or help someone in need? Now I ask you this, why do you need a crown to do that? A true queen wears a crown in her heart and always puts others before herself. If you can do that, then you are a queen!!!

Thank you National American Miss for helping everyday girls reach their dreams! Remember, "The harder you work, the luckier you get!"

Farewell to Sam Triani, Miss Illinois Jr. Teen

The surest way not to fail is to be determined to succeed.

In 2007, I competed for my first time at NAM Illinois State. I was scared because I did not know what to expect. Soon all the jitters went away and I made so many new friends. That year placed 6th overall. I went back in 2008 and was 3rd runner up. My determination did not stop there, because in 2010 I went back and competed for a third time and I was honored and extremely shocked when they called my name as your new Miss Illinois Jr. Teen.

Getting ready for Nationals was a blast with all my sisters queens and my family. I went to many volunteer projects, including Feed My Starving Children where I got to bag food for the starving children of our world. I was in numerous photo shoots and even got to judge my very first pageant! November came around and it was time for nationals in California! I had so much fun there getting to meet the national directors and bonding with state queens who I’d meet throughout the years. I also made new friends with girls from all over the country.

This amazing experience and fully packed year would not have been possible without the people who are always there for me. To my mom, dad, and Nicole- You three are my world. Without you, especially mom, this amazing year and my reign would not have been possible. To my friends and family, thank you for always being the loudest cheering section in the crowd and being the best support system around.

To the NAM Staff, you guys are amazing and so much fun to be around. You run a beautiful program where young ladies can truly be themselves and shine on stage. And to all the wonderful and inspiring young woman, I met throughout the year, especially my sister queens, thank you for opening your hearts to me. You are all beautiful and I know you’re going places.

To my successor, don’t blink. The year goes by so fast. Cherish all the memories you make and remember all the people who helped you get to where you are. Never take a single moment for granted and make the best of your title. Always remember, you have people watching you, especially little girls, so always be the very best role model you can be.

NAM state finalist overcoming challenges to reach her goals....

Last week we wrapped up out Pageant Prep Training sessions for our Illinois pageant. During our training session, I had to pleasure of meeting a super cool girl - Devin Davis.

Devin, who is a State Finalist in our Teen division this year in our Illinois pageant, coming up Labor Day Weekend in St. Charles, is such an awesome girl and doesn't let the fact that she comes loaded with a set a wheels stop her! So, when I came across this article (on www.mysuburunlife.com) I knew I had to share it with the rest of the NAM community.....as Devin defines what the NAM motto, being "today's girl, a girl with dreams" is all about!

Elmhurst, IL —

Devin Davis, 19, was diagnosed with mitochondrial myopathy as a 1-year-old, a rare muscle disorder that confined her to a wheelchair. This March, while in the hospital with pneumonia, Davis was given a new diagnosis — Myasthenia Syndrome — and along with it, “the hope I have always wanted,” she said. “The hope to one day walk.”

In July she was selected as a finalist for the National American Miss Illinois pageant, which will take place Sept. 3 and 4 in St. Charles.

In what ways has the new diagnosis given you hope? What are things you want to

do that now appear possible?

With my new diagnoses of Myasthenia Syndrome Dok 7 there are medicines that can help me become stronger. I would like to be able to walk without a walker, drive, be more independent in my daily living activities, be able to be off my respiratory machines longer and obtain a job in communication and broadcasting so as to be a role model for today’s youth.

It has been with the help of family and friends, the entire town of Elmhurst, my Messiah Lutheran Church Family, Easter Seals DuPage and ECAF that I have been able to receive not only the medical services and medical equipment necessary (to keep) me alive and stable but also for believing in me every step of the way. Without all of these wonderful people, I would not be here today living my dreams and being able to make a difference in this world.

What tasks does the disorder make difficult for you? How do you overcome those challenges?
The more active I am, the more fatigued I feel at the end of the day. Although I am stronger, it is still difficult for me to raise my arms above my head, to walk more then 60 steps and working a full 40-hour work week is difficult. I stay positive that with ongoing physical therapy and the right medication I will continue to strengthen my muscles, making each task easier over time.

What about yourself do you think impressed the judges during your Miss Illinois open call?
The courage to pursue my dreams despite being physically challenged, my upbeat and positive personality, my interview skills and my ability to make people feel comfortable around me.

What do you think other teens can learn from your story?
That despite the challenges you may face in life, if you have a strong mindset, positive attitude and a solid support system you can achieve any goal or dream you wish to fulfill.

What do you think other people with disabilities can learn from your story?
Although we live in a society that may be hard to maneuver around in as a physically challenged person, just because one door is slammed does not mean another one can’t be opened with enough determination and power of positive thinking.

What causes would you like to advocate for, if you win the pageant?
There are two main causes. First, inclusion of disabled individuals in society in every aspect. Second, bullying in schools and judging peers based on outer appearance and stereotyping them versus getting to know them from the inside out.

This year has been "so much of a good thing" for Olivia Lulich, Miss Wisconsin Jr. Preteen 2010

So Much of a Good Thing!

It was July 2007 when I first entered the Wisconsin National American Miss pageant. I was 5 years old, quiet, shy and had no idea what to expect throughout the weekend ahead. At times it seemed overwhelming, but it was certainly exhilarating and fun. And although I did not come home with the crown, I was definitely hooked and very much wanted to compete the following year. And so I did for the next three years – each time becoming more prepared, a little further out of my shell and more focused upon my strengthens.

Then last July, the dream finally became real when I was named the 2010 Miss Wisconsin Junior Preteen!! The excitement and happiness I felt at that moment cannot be described – let’s just say that I couldn’t stop smiling for about two weeks!!
I took to heart all the advice so many past queens had shared – cherish every moment because the year goes by so very quickly.

Throughout the summer and fall I made many appearances at local parades and events. I also focused on my community service project – collecting donations for our local food pantry. I donated over 500 pounds of food and participated in a 5K Walk for Hunger. I donated books to our city library and bears to the area hospital.

My spare time was focused on preparation for Nationals! Wow, what a week – I participated in Spokesmodel, Actress, Casualwear Modeling, Photogenic and the Queens competition. I met so many amazing young ladies from across the nation – many of who I consider very dear friends. My entire family traveled with me and I was blessed to have my Godmother and her family join us for our day in Disney and to cheer me on for the final pageant. That week has so many special memories that I will forever cherish. One particular moment that stands out was seeing the ocean for the very first time in my life! Even though the water was freezing cold – I still had to play in it for a little while!

Throughout winter and spring I made every attempt to wear my crown and banner at a variety of events. My community has little understanding of pageants and often associates it with what they see on TV. I make it my mission to explain the natural side of pageants and emphasize the life skills that pageants provide: self-confidence, communication skills, pose and public speaking. All things that will forever benefit me – no matter what career I choose.

So although it was only five years ago that I was that shy little girl who would hide behind my mother’s leg and forced her to speak on my behalf; I have to credit my pageantry experiences for helping me to become the confident girl I am today!

This year has truly been a dream come true. Special thanks to the Maples for putting together such a fantastic pageant, of which so many young ladies benefit. To Miss Ashley for always seeing the best parts of me and helping me grow as a person. To my little brother Ethan for sticking it out through long pageant events, but always cheering loudest for me. To my parents – thank you for giving me this opportunity and teaching me the importance of hard work, determination and being true to myself. To the many family members and friends who sent words of support and cheered from afar – your love and encouragement mean the world to me.

Looking back – I can proudly say that I have enjoyed every minute and I’m so excited to for the next young lady to have this opportunity. To all the NAM contestants - keep believing your dreams, because they just may come true!
